For My Best Buddy

Happy Birthday To You!
I share a birthday with my dear friend, along with a love of crafting, food, good stories and belly laughing. I think we may just be kindred spirits.

Mojo Monday #136

Greeting Card
Using Kaiser Papers
I used the new La-Di-Da collection of Kaiser papers to create a card based on this week's Mojo Monday sketch. The flowers in the corner are actually hand-cut from a piece of their glittery paper and the scallop is one of their diecuts. For a bit of extra oomph, I used a black pen to add all the faux stitching. (Don't you love that term? Faux stitching. Sounds so much better than I-was-too-lazy-to-pull-out-the-sewing-machine-stitching.)

Four Butterfly Cards

A Pack of Pretty Cards
My Spellbinders are running hot again lately... I've had to blow the smoke off my Cuttlebug! I used the beautiful Fleur di Lis Pendant dies to create these little 4" square cards that will eventually (see 12th of Never) sit nicely together in a little hand-made box. I embellished them with some clear Kaiser rhinestones for just the right amount of sparkle.

Sympathy Card

Cross Collection
For my birthday I received the absolutely beautiful Cross Collection of Shapeability dies. It's a little hard to tell from the photo, but these little beauties also emboss a wonderful pattern that adds texture and visual appeal to the basic diecut shape. The design of the card is based on the latest Mojo Monday sketch (#135).

Sunflowers

A Card for Aunty
Mojo Monday Sketch #134
The gorgeous papers I used to make this card inspired the inscription, the colour scheme and even provided the wonderful big sunflowers I've used as the focal point.

Simple and Quick

Masculine Card
I made this card for my brother's birthday next week. The leaf is actually from a set of beautiful stickers that I've had in my stash for the past hundred years! (Well, maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but it's been there for a long time.) I layered up the background, did some stitching and then punched and bashed a few eyelets into place... they're great for anger management. The final step was threading through some string and tying it in place for a nice, simple masculine card.

Baby Card

For My New Nephew
Mojo Monday #133
We had the joyous news this morning of the birth of the newest member of our family! A brand new baby boy for my brother and sister-in-law. Needless to say, an occasion like this is the perfect opportunity for a card... I think this might be the fourth that I have made for them, congratulating them for everything from being pregnant to having a baby shower!

I used the latest Mojo Monday sketch and my little cat printable for this design. I highly recommend the Mojo Monday sketches if you're feeling a little uninspired or short of design ideas. Just looking through all the wonderful creations that other card-makers have come up with is food for your mojo.

Secret Book Box

Hidden Treasures
Altered Book Box
My husband is an avid book collector and has hundreds of wonderful old collector's edition science fiction novels. Most of them are in wonderful, pristine condition with protective plastic wrap around them, but some are just tired, worn out and ready for the recycle bin. The pages in this book were starting to crumble and tear and had yellowed significantly by the time I got my hands on it. So, instead of sending it to the Great Library in the Sky, I decided to give it a new life... don't know how my sci-fi loving husband will feel about it though!

I made sure I gave all the pages of the book a good coating of Modge Podge to protect them from further degradation and to add a layer between the papers and fabric that I was adding. I always coat my completed off the page projects with matte varnish as well, which helps protect them from moisture and dust.

The well that I cut inside the book has been lined with white felt that I hand stitched and ribbon embroidered. The white swirls are all Kaisercraft stamps that I heat embossed to give a lovely, opaque finish.

P.S. Hubby loved the end result... he said it's even better now than it was before. Strangely though, there's now a padlock on our glass fronted bookcase. (???)

My Jewellery Box

Antiqued Box
Altered Art
I had this lovely, sturdy old jewellery box that was in desperate need of a freshen up and a bit of a face lift... I can so relate! Anyway, with the help of some gorgeous papers, pretty lace and self-adhesive pearls, I was able to transform it into an elegant piece for my dressing table.

Easter Bunny Card

Happy Easter
Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge
Easter is just a couple of days away now, so I thought I would squeeze one last card in before Mr. Bunny arrives. I used the latest Mojo Monday sketch for this one, and made the front out of a sheet of acrylic that I embossed through the cuttlebug for some extra texture.

I coloured this bunny with brighter colours than the last one I did. As you can see, he looks great in either pastels or brights, so it just depends on the background papers you want to use. Here's the free printable again for you to download.
